Stage 4 -

We swapped out our bikes for boats to cross from Ardvasar to Mallaig in an attempt to continue our human-powered journey! This was to be an exciting crossing and Ailsa's first experience in a kayak!

Our plan was to set off from Skye with support from Brian Wilson kayaking with us, as well as help from our film crew who would take the ferry and meet us on the other side.

Unfortunately, the weather had other plans, and the strong tides and wind made would have made for an unsafe crossing. This meant that we had to take the decision early on in the crossing to turn back, and therefore unfortunately have our first non-human powered leg of the journey.

Although this felt like a bit of a failure at the time, we soon realised that it was much better to think responsibly and avoid putting ourselves and others in danger by risking the crossing. Our blustery ferry crossing affirmed the decision!

This change of plan encouraged us consider the the adventure aspect of our journey, and appreciate the fact that we can’t control weather circumstances.
